The BCARNTX Technical Team

The Tech Team

The Tech Team is the core group of hams involved with BCARN that plan, implement, and maintain the privately owned repeaters, electronics labs and computers that make BCARN possible, both on the internet and on the ham bands.

If you have excellent technical skills, test equipment, time, energy, resources, and the ability to work well with other intelligent, capable people, drop us a line and communicate your ideas and interests and what you see your role as a member on the tech team could be.

This is an "over-achiever's group". We are all pretty serious about Ham Radio as a hobby. For all of us, its not the only thing we do, as wives, children, and work come first, but the technical team members are all people who know that just talking about it won't make it happen.

KD5YCY - Joe Peterson, BCARN Founder

Joe Peterson is a relativly new ham. He is a fast learner and he takes the time to make contact with and learn from the "old guys" who have been in ham radio for many years. The benefits of these two attributes are apparent in that Joe has made excellent, exceptional choices in equipment & location, for repeater applications and for his own station. BCARN has to date been a wonderful success, providing the highest level of on-the-air activity, as well as projects (like new repeaters) that haven't been seen in decades in this area of Texas. Joe's technical skills include wireless internet on a commercial scale, and a common sense approach to problem solving and trouble shooting that is rare.

NZ5V - Gary Peterson

Gary Peterson and Joe Peterson are not related, but have many common points of interest. Gary was first licensed in 1975, as a novice, and later upgraded to General. After letting his license lapse, Gary re-tested in 2000, and went from nothing to Extra Class in 30 days. He has a well equiped radio lab, and a machine shop. His two primary areas of expertise are duplexers and VHF/UHF antennas.

K6DBR - Richard Cohen

Richard has a BSEE from Cal Poly, Pomona CA 1964, was in the USAF from 1964 to 1984 as a Communications Officer, then spent six Years with E Systems (Air and ground Communications), 6 Years with UPS (Radio Testing), then 1 Year with Western Wireless doing GSM Cellular Design, and 3 Years with GTE International (Cellular System Design, Operations, & Maintenance).

W5MUH - Rogers Dennis

Rogers is an retired Radio Shop owner. Rogers is one of the best duplexer tuners in West Texas. He is also the man to see if you have a problem with any GE Mastr II equipment. Rogers has been key in all of the BCARN repeater projects to date.

KD5TKR - Charles Blythe

Charles is a system administrator with an ASP that is based out of Atlanta. He is interested in many aspects of amateur radio, but excels in working with Motorola commercial radios and digital interfacing. Charles' strong points are his troubleshooting skills and his ability to understand complex systems.

KD5OZY - James Winstead

James loves electronics, and working on electronics. He especially likes getting down to component level repair, and the more challenging the better. Next to component level repair, he finds keeping up the local repeaters to be both challenging and rewarding. KD5OZY has been in electronic repair for nearly 19 years
